As Seen on TV!

Anna & Nicola

Last night I made my TV debut!

I helped the lovely Nicola declutter her wardrobe and style some new outfits as part of itv Tonight’s show ‘Keep, Chuck or Clean?’ which looked at people who hoard things and how simple changes can cut clutter, keep us healthy and save (or sometimes even earn) us some cash.

It was a wonderful experience to get involved with the project as its something I’m really passionate about. I genuinely don’t think you need a lot of clothes to look and feel your best each day.

Khaki + Stripes

For me nothing says ‘Spring’ like stripes – I can’t get enough of them and it seems many of you are the same!

My Style Assessment & Wardrobe Detox sessions have been so popular these past few weeks and I can’t tell you how many of those wardrobes have been packed full of stripey tops in all shades and sizes – and why not? A simple striped tee is so versatile and also incredibly flattering. If you have a triangle body shape they balance out your proportions wonderfully, if you’re smaller busted they work wonders for flattering your top half and a striped top never, ever goes out of style.

From the days of Coco Chanel through to now, the stripe is a wardrobe staple. I love this simple combination of a striped top with denim and khaki but I also love to dress up a simple tee like this with a contrasting statement necklace (my Stella & Dot Coral Cay regularly gets paired with this outfit, as does my Norah pendant).

If you don’t already have a few stripes in your wardrobe now is the time to get stocked up. Here are a few things to bear in mind…

  • If you have Clear colour characteristics have fun with colour combinations, navy and white is classic but you could try and array of colours to give some added contrast to your look.
  • For those of you who fall into the Soft colour category go for more muted tones – nothing to clashing or bright for you as this will overpower your tonal look.
  • Triangle body shapes (like me) rejoice in the stripe and wear it on your top half only to balance out your proportions. Add layers like a denim shirt, necklace or scarf too if you like.
  • Be mindful of the size of stripe you choose – the grander in scale you are, the larger the stripe you can wear. Petite ladies should opt for thinner, more delicate stripes so they don’t overpower you.

Happy stripe shopping!

Fashion Friday on

Lambert’s Yard

If you haven’t checked out Lambert’s Yard in Leeds yet, you definitely need to get yourself along there sometime soon.

It’s a hidden gem tucked away on Lower Briggate next to a Bar & Restaurant called ‘Rare’ (which I’m planning a visit to soon to sample some of the gorgeous dishes they have on their menu).

It describes itself as an ‘independent concept store and creative event space…’ but in my opinion it’s so much more than that. Housed in a historic building, with it’s exposed brickwork, wooden flooring, and light streaming in, it’s a refreshing departure from the hustle of the city centre and the perfect anecdote to the many chains we now have in Leeds.

I had the pleasure of going along last week to meet with the store’s Buying Director, Adam Jagger and he walked me through some of the great brands and designers that are stocked in-store – some of which you can’t get anywhere else in Leeds and some Leeds designers too.

There’s a real mix of labels at Lambert’s Yard – Humanoid (great staple pieces in soft, neutral shades), Selected Femme (perfect everyday items, of which I may have bought one or two whilst I was visiting!), Klear Klutch (fun, colourful clutch bags that are just fab), Edie Mac (hello GORGEOUS prints and sumptuous fabrics) and more. Whether you’re looking for some Spring staples or something a bit special, Lambert’s Yard are likely to be able to hook you up.

The staff are also the friendliest of anywhere I’ve shopped at in Leeds (and in my line of work, that’s ALL the stores so trust me on this one!) – great customer service is often hard to come-by these days and it was refreshing to be served by staff who were attentive and knowledgable.

Spring staples by Selected Femme – stripes and Spring just go together!

As you can tell, I’m pretty taken with the place – I guess because it’s just a bit different to anything else in Leeds at the moment which is so nice to see.

You can view their website and shop online here.

To tell us more about Lambert’s Yard (and her own personal style) I asked Rosie Lyness, Assistant Buyer if she’d answer a few questions for me, here’s what she had to say…

Rosie Lyness, Lambert’s Yard Assistant Buyer

Tell us a little bit about the concept behind the store and what you think makes it different from other stores in Leeds?

The concept behind the store was to give independent brands and designers a platform in Leeds, to cater for shoppers who are looking for something different from the high street and to support the regeneration of the textile and manufacturing industries in the region.

The vast majority of the brands stocked in Lambert’s Yard can’t be found elsewhere in Leeds and in a number of cases, anywhere else outside of London.

Which are your favourite brands stocked at Lambert’s Yard?

As a buyer, I’m not allowed to have favourites and I like all the brands we stock in Lambert’s Yard for different reasons. I am, however, really excited to be stocking Danish brand, Wood Wood, this season.

What do you love most about fashion in the North?

I think Northerners really nail laid back, casual fashion, whilst still being risk takers. They’re not afraid to stand out from the crowd.

Which trend do you plan on trying for Spring 2015?

I will be jumping on the denim band wagon – I’ve got my eye on a gorgeous denim pinafore. I also want to find some nice suede pieces as a nod to the 70s revival.

Describe your style in three words?

In my head it’s clean, Scandi and androgynous. In reality, I often get called ‘Nana Lambert’s’ due to my love of knitwear and keeping warm!

Tell me about your favourite outfit of all time?

My favourite outfit of all time was Bjork’s swan outfit. I loved it!

Which beauty product could you not live without?

Kiehls’ Midnight Recovery Concentrate, but I’m a massive fan of all of their products. You could say I’m a Kiehl’s addict!

Tell me about the most amazing pair of shoes you own?

A pair of tan leather Grensons – classic English brogues, with a white rubber sole that gives them extra height and a nice modern twist. They look great with pretty much any outfit.

And now the quick-fire round!

London, Paris or New York?

City or country?

Night in or night out?
