Statement Shoes For Spring

Since returning to work from a semi-maternity leave six months ago I have rediscovered the joys of shoes!

I’ve always been an accessories girl; bags and shoes in particular have always caught my eye. However, since I’ve had children I unsurprisingly spend very little time in heels and most of my life in trainers. Don’t get me wrong, I love my trainers. They’re comfy and practical and I have a nice collection of fun, colourful kicks that are perfect for the school run or playing in the park.

When I’m working though I do like to elevate my outfits with a statement shoe. Whether that’s a leopard print flat or a bright, bold heel like these from Mint Velvet.

I bought these on a complete whim and was so pleased I trusted my gut. I always advise my clients to shop with a list, to only buy items when they meet certain criteria etc. However… sometimes you just have to buy the shoes!

Since purchasing these little beauties I’ve found myself drawn to bright, statement footwear. It’s a great way to add a touch of quirkiness to your outfit without breaking the bank, as well as incorporating the latest trends in a really easy way. Shoes this season come in a range of hues and with a variety of embellishments; from frills/ruffles to pom poms, studs, buckles and everything in-between.

Footwear is a great way to have inject some personality into an outfit and have a little fun. Here are a few ideas as a starter for ten…

Currently Coveting… Solillas Sandals

A little while back I came across the Instagram account of Solillas and since then I feel like I’ve been seeing them everywhere. Their range of simple, stylish and comfortable footwear really ticks all the right boxes for me and although I haven’t purchased any yet I can feel a trip to town to take a closer look coming on very soon!

There are two things that are particularly tempting me to purchase a pair… (1) they have a huge amount of choice in terms of colours and designs, I’m particularly taken with the animal prints and brighter shades. (2) They will be SO versatile (I think I may have mentioned that versatility is one of the key things I look for in an item of clothing, just a few times!) – I can wear them now with skirts, dresses, shorts or trousers and even when the weather gets cooler I can still see myself wearing these well into Autumn (providing it doesn’t rain of course!)

If you haven’t come across them before then make sure you check them out here. In the meantime here are a few of my top picks…

Peach glitter – because who doesn’t need a little sparkle in their life?!

Turquoise Silver – more of a Summer style due to the lighter shades but there would definitely add a fab pop of colour to any outfit. (p.s this colour is on sale at the moment!)

Zebra Pony effect – I think these may be a winner for me, they’re also on sale (and may just be in my shopping basket as we speak…click, click…sold!)

Which style would you go for?

Since I had my son (who is 3 next month, eek!) I haven’t had the occasion or even desire to wear my heels all that much.

Being tall I’m lucky that I don’t really need to add any height but I do love the difference a pair of great heels makes to the look of your legs. They appear leaner, more toned and generally just look better! I find that heels give you more confidence too – you walk differently in them and for me they definitely feel more ‘special’ than a pair of flats.

This pair from Nine West are most definitely ‘car to bar’ – the less I wear heels the less my feet will tolerate them but nevertheless I still have a vast collection in my wardrobe, just waiting for the right excuse to be worn. Although they may only come out on high days and holidays I always feel that little bit more ‘dressed up’ when I wear them.

This Summer I have vowed to vary my footwear more – I’ll still be living in my flats for the nursery run and weekly visit to get groceries but fully intend to pair some of my lesser words shoes with everyday items like boyfriend jeans and maxi skirts for work, girly lunches and date nights with my husband. After all, it really is a crime to keep beautiful shoes hidden away from the world, wouldn’t you agree?
